Full Moon in Cancer: Back to Basics

Today we experience a Full Moon in 4 degrees of Cancer. This lunation highlights any imbalance that exists between our home life and our ambition. With the Sun in Capricorn opposite the Moon in Cancer we zero in on the symbolic polarity between these two sign’s.

This is a cycle about self care, nurturing ourselves and others, our home and family. This is a time for retreat in preparation for another new chapter. We are being pulled inward to reflect upon the intricate balance we keep between who we are in the security of our home and what we wish to achieve out in the world. Our thoughts may be on what we want for the future and how we can create a haven that can be the solid foundation necessary to achieve our vision.

Uranus is cranking up the tension by forming a semi-square to the Moon and a cranky sesqui-square to the Sun. Uranus here is bringing about the unexpected through sudden change and disruptive energy in the position of the point of Thor. These energies are unfortunately not interested in working together which can add to the underlying stress.

Jupiter in Taurus is trine the Sun and sextile the Moon. Saturn in Pisces is sextile the Sun and trine the Moon. With Jupiter and Saturn each at the point of Thales they are in a position to help sort out the tension that is being created by the Sun and Moon. Jupiter brings expansion to the opposing energies. Saturn is helping us establish the boundaries necessary to protect what’s at stake. We are being asked to consider what we love enough to really devote ourselves to it.

Remember we are amidst Mercury Retrograde also in Capricorn. Mercury is now squaring Neptune in Pisces asking us to pay close attention to what we are ruminating upon. This likely holds clues to what we need to cut out of our lives and what we desire to build. This aspect can also be about illusions, delusion and lies so we need to be on guard. With Neptune in Pisces involvement it may be harder to see clearly but it is also easier to connect with our dreams.

This is the last full moon of 2023 so it’s our last chance to release whatever needs to stay in 2023. Anything that is keeping us from experiencing a healthy balance between who we are at home and our purpose out in the world is primed for purging. We are evolving our plans for what we wish to achieve next in 2024.

The New Moon in visionary Capricorn on January 11th is an ideal time to set powerful New Years intentions. Capricorn has the natural ability to focus in on the big picture and break down the necessary objectives to achieving into bite size pieces. Mercury will also be direct by that time making it easier to see things clearly after this time of reconsideration the retrograde transit provides. We can use this Full Moon in the opposing sign of Cancer and the retrograde energy for refinement.
